Posted - 11 Jan 2023 : 19:57:19 Gentlemen,
With 4.37, we're deploying to the Balkans.
Campaign is Balance of Power, objectives:
- 20 to 30 campaign days to complete. Depending on User Control Interface and ground troop movement. - BLUE must take Zagreb, Zadar, Banja Luka, Split, Mostar, Tuzla, Osijek, Sarajevo, Bihac and Gornji Vakuf. - RED win if they take Rijeka, Kranj, and Ljubljana.
Air Threats: G-4 MiG-21Bis MiG-21MF MiG-21F-13 MiG-29A Su-25 Su-33/39 (Kuznetsov)
SAM Threats: AAA & MANPADS SA-2/3/4/5/6
Our first mission consists in disabling Zemunik airbase, hosting two squadrons of G-4 and one of MiG-21. Two airbases (Kastela and Udbina) also have fighters and are within 50NM of the target.
F-15s are sweeping the area, so we're not expecting enemy CAPs, but pop up threats are the main risk.
Known SAMs at target: SA-2/3 and AAA. Possible SA-4/6.
Package 2234 HAWKEYE 5 - ESCORT MUSTANG 5 - SEAD SPADE 6 - OCA Strike
Weather Fair.
MS - Both runways destroyed and no losses to enemy action. PS - One runway destroyed and max. 1 loss to enemy action

PS
Take off was delayed as we were stuck behind AI traffic on the taxiway. This resulted us being 60+ miles behind Hawkeye. As it turned out this was handy while they cleared quite a MiGs out of the way.
As ew approached the pre-agreed hold point Hawkeye first told us to hold then gave the SPANDEX call, indicating the SAMs were down. We moved toward the target in trail at FL260. Vosene, acting as Darkstar AWACs gave us a valuable heads up about MiG 21's taking off from the target air base. I took a shot at it and it turned away. Another AI friendly aircraft's slammer got to the MiG beofre mine did, stealing my kill.
We pressed our ground attack. Our pre-designated targets were awry and I made the rror of hitting Gekko's runway. We both had successful strikes, but as mine was at the wrong target, we only achieved a partial success.
I called LYCRA to signify the completion of the ground attack and we returned to base with an overhead break.
We were initially concerned about the distance and therefore the fuel needed. As it turned out we needn't have worried as we landed with around 5500lbs of fuel on board.
Great comms from Pixy in the lead Hawkeye and having Vosene in AWACs was great. Gekko was, as usual, a great wingy and it all worked well.
I love flying the Balkans.
