Israeli ground forces have broken through the defences at the Egyptian border and are currently advancing West across the Sinai desert, so far unopposed. However, these ground units will soon engage enemy ground forces along their line of advance. Further to the North, satellite imagery acquired by Mossad has identified several concentrations of Egyptian armoured units moving east through North Sinai towards our border defences. These units are currently unopposed and will reach our territory within days. The 185th VFS, supported by F15s of the 186th VFS is tasked with SEARCH AND DESTROY these advancing units. Two flights of F16I-52+ SUFA have been assigned to conduct the AI task with DCA support from a flight of F15C. However since there is scant information on enemy counter-air activity, at the discretion of Package Cdr, one flight of F16I-52+ SUFA may be reconfigured for Close Escort. Primary ground targets are believed to be advancing within the Northern Box but secondary targets are also moving within the Southern Box. WARNING: Units within the Southern Box may already be in close contact with friendly ground units and extreme care should be taken if engaging ground units within this AoR.

INTEL The nearby airbases at Faid and Abu Suwayr are home to several squadrons of Egyptian F16-32, F16-40 and F16-52+. Package commander/Air Boss should consider this on ingress and during mission. In addition, a SA3 battalion is situated approx. 30nm from the AO but should not be a factor as long as pilots do not stray to the east and southeast. NATO continues to authorise logistical and EW support to Israeli forces. Whilst NATO forces are not permitted to engage in active combat with Egyptian forces (unless fired upon), UN Charter 11979 has authorised limited use of AEW capability. To that end, an E3A Sentry (Escorted by 2x F15C) has been tasked from RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus and remain on station.
