Take off was uneventful. We had one hold while the escort dealt with some MiG23s. We then proceeded to the targets. No3 headed east to attack the remains of a SA-2 battalion. Unfortunately there remains a single truck.
1 and 2 headed for the designated four bridges. The initial attack had to be aborted as MiG29As attacked from the north. No3 was AA at this time and scared the bandit away, allowing 1 and 2 precious time to attack the four bridges. Three were destroyed with the fourth one incurring damage.
I called Miller Time and we headed back.
As we set up for the approach and landing we were attacked by ground fire from a motor rifle battalion that was right on the FLOT and only twenty miles from our AB. I was KIA and No2 ejected. 3 executed an emergency break and climb east and evaded the flak fired at him.
A good mission spoiled by a sneaky attack on us. GRRR!
