The last of our flights, although costly in airframes, was successful in destroying the coastal SA-10 battalion, opening routes further east.

Enemy air activity has increased, however, with MiG-29S and SU-30MKK threats coming from coastal airbases as well as from the recently repaired airbase to the south.

Command have tasked us with neutralising these airbases and the first target is Mostaganem airbase, home to a MiG-29S squadron.

Fig. 1 - Package Flight Routes Specifically the OCA Strike Route

There remains a known and active SA-8 unit at PPT65, which should be avoided. There is a suspected SA-22 unit at Mostaganem but recent ACMIs did not pick it up.

Your package consists of two flights of F-16s and a DCA of four F-15Cs.

Mustang 6 (F-16C-52+CFT) - OCA strike

Cajun 5 (F-16C-52+CFT) - AI

Mohawk 2 (F-15C) - Escort

Fig. 2 - Target Area Intel

The runway orientation at Mostaganem is 19/01. It is recommended that an attack from the north is used in order to avoid any hidden inland SAMs/defences.

Your Primary task is to attack and destroy the runway at Mostaganem.

Your Secondary task is to destroy any air defences at Mostaganem and the remains of the SA-10 battalion before it is resupplied.

Tertiary targets shall be airfield buildings.

The weather is clear at the target.

Mission Success Criteria
OCA Strike Flight
Mission Success shall be awarded for the destruction of the runway at Mostaganem with no losses due to pilot error.

A Partial Success shall be similarly awarded with a maximum of one loss to the OCA flight.

AI Flight
Mission Success shall be awarded for the destruction of an average of 4 briefed ground units per aircraft.

Partial Success shall be awarded for the destruction of an average of 3 briefed ground units per aircraft.

Escort Flight
Mission Success shall be awarded for the protection of the OCA flight with no losses to them from enemy air attack.

Partial Success shall be awarded for the protection of the OCA flight with one loss to them from enemy air attack.

Good hunting.

MS

We took off loaded with SDBs and slowly climbed to FL240. 1 & 2 were tasked with destroy defence assets at the target airbase, while 3 was tasked with clearing the remainder of the SA-10 battalion we hit last time out.

Mohawk 2 asked us to retrograde when they had a number of MiG flights to deal with. No3 missed the call as he was in hot on the SA-10. I had to call him to get him to turn tail.

Once cleared back in, 3 went for his targets while 1 & 2 looked for the reported SA-22 at the airbase. There was nothing there. We took shots at other assets, including Mig outside of their HAS buildings. Myself and 2 destroyed 3 of them on the ground.

I then saw two heading for the runway and went for the kill. My missiles missed in dogfight mode, locking instead on aircraft on the ground! I then flew too slow and could not recover before hitting the ground.

2 continued to attack the Migs but he too was hit and was KIA. 3 was coming to help from the SA-10 site and was also shot down but managed to eject.

Our tally of kills gave us a MS but it was a messy one. I certainly should have gone Cat 1 once I had decided to go air to air.

Good kills by both Bayonet and Scooter. MC shows that the SA-10 has gone completely. There's no resupplying that!
