Following on from the 9th June Fan SAM mission, we will be focusing on the SA-4 to better understand their tactics and how best to engage and destroy the Pat Hand tracking radar. We will also check to see what launch and RWR warnings are provided. This mission will also include AAR practice.

More info to follow.

Might be worth checking the SA-3 as well. That thing didn't want to light up last night, despite Seeker and my best efforts.

Snake 1 - SEAD

Snake 11 "Griffin" AA=0, AG=0, RTB
Snake 12 "Mango" AA=0, AG=0, KIA
Snake 13 "Noodle" AA=1, AG=0, RTB
Snake 14 "Seeker" AA=0, AG=0, RTB

Mission Success

Take off and approach to target area was good. No SAMs lit up despite our best efforts to get them to light up but to no avail.

We tried shots with HAD and POS on the eastern SA-3 but they missed.

As we leaved to refuel there were MiG 31s in the north. F/A 18s were engaged with them but Noodle got a kill of one of them.

Refuelling was frustrating with the tanker turning every couple of minutes. Noodle managed to get fuel but the rest of us didn't.

We returned for an ILS approach but Mango ran low on fuel (just over 1000lbs) and flamed out to dive into the ground. The rest of us landed safely.

Lobo1 - SEAD

Lobo11 "Vosene" AA=0, AG=0, RTB
Lobo12 "Reds" AA=0, AG=0, RTB
Lobo13 "Sabre" AA=0, AG=0, RTB

Mission Success

Plan
Check-in with tanker Texaco2 then abort to see if this forced tanker to fly complete legs. Move to AO and engage 1x SA-4, 1x SA-3 and 1x SA-6. Leave AO and AAR before RTB, expecting ILS on Runway 34R due to deteriorating weather.

Execution
Departure was fine, checked in with Texaco2 but it didn’t turn. #1 made decision to refuel then as tanker was flying long legs. #1 fueled, tanker turned at far leg and proceeded back with #2 refueling. #3 tired to get fuel but when tanker reached initial refuel point again it started to do short 2 min legs and #2 couldn’t get gas.

Proceeded to AO but couldn’t get any SAMs to light up. #1 fired POS shots at SA-4 and SA-6 but both missed as SAMs never went active.

With #3 at Bingo Flight RTB’d. ATC vectored aircraft to Runway 16R, enjoyable landing in poor weather.

Due to SAMs not going active, both Flights given MS.

Need to investigate why sometimes SAMs go active and sometimes they just remain off.

Frustrating, I will be flying the exact same mission tonight from 2030 UK, if anyone wants to join.

I probably won’t be able to make it until around 2100. I’ll join if there is a seat available.

Noodle, may be worth double checking that the AD units have their mission set to Air Defence and aren’t set to Reserve.

I've just checked, they're all elite units.
If Griffin is fine with it let's move it to 2100 then, not a problem for me.
