And re-fragged again (with a little tweaking) for Sunday 28th July. Need more than the four pilots we had. |

Mission Success
Took off 2mins after Warhawk flight, proceeded to our boresight STP when Sabre had to exit the game because of flight controls issue. Unfortunately he was not able to come back. At this point AI Plasma11 flooded VHF freq with non sense and he went off to engage the objective on his own while Warhawk1 was still sweeping the area. Plasma13 took the lead and as we were headed towards the column Plasma11 decided to call it a day and RTB. VHF freq was much calmer, Plasma12 was able to rejoin on a 5NM trail. Plasma13 spoted/marked the movers and 2NM before launch Warhawk1 called bandits on UHF and Plasma1 disengaged. We climbed back to 22000 and held west of tanker tracks until Warhawk cleared us in a couple minutes later. On an anti-clockwise wagon wheel we engaged target staying between 12000 and 16000. Area was clear of SAMs but we still got bugged by some AAA north of the column. After 3 passes Plasma13 was winchester, Plasma12 could not get his 2 remaining Mavericks off station and our escort approaching Bingo fuel we called it a day.
We went for a straight in approach, landed without any problems.
I really enjoyed this mission, good communication and good results in both flights. It was good to be back after a few weeks MIA (my apologies for this) and I got to test out my new connection (will stream next time), new SSD and +8GB of RAM.
I'll be flying most nights this week (Bear Trap Campaign, check ATO), let me know if anyone is interested to join. |

Mission Success
Plan
Destroy Southern SA-3 and SA-2 critical to achieve mission. Other AD units considered targets of opportunity. CAP at Northern edge of AO.
Execution
Departure as per SOP. Got into AO and SA-3 was not transmitting so switched focus to SA-2. SA-3 search radar lit up so #1 engaged and destroyed it. #1 trespassed SA-3 with #2 ready for shot and #3 monitoring FCR with TGP looking for launches and Shack confirmation.
SA-2 lit up and engaged Lead so #1 fired second Harm and went defensive. At same time SA-3 lit up so #2 engaged with Harm and also went defensive. #3 quickly confirmed SA-3 FCR was destroyed. SA-2 also stopped emitting so we quickly pushed forward and confirmed SA-2 FCR was destroyed, both visually and with TGP. Plasma1 were briefed that AD targets were destroyed and cleared into target area.
Learning Point- #1 forgot to brief Plasma1 that there was AAA in the area. This should have been passed.
Learning Point - Tactic of having one aircraft in WEZ and one outside ready to fire if SAM turns on works well. Having an aircraft with TGP on FCR also works well to confirm destroyed and monitor for SAM launches.
#1 was now Arizona so went A2A and cleared #2 and #3 to work as a pair to engage other AD targets of opportunity. Before they could, #1 picked up contacts from the North which were hot and declared hostile by AWACS. Pair of MiG-21, #1 and #3 both fired a Slammer and each splashed one bandit while Plasma1 were directed to Retrograde south to avoid getting mixed up in the engagement.
With Picture Clear Plasma1 resumed their ground engagements and Warhawk1 resumed CAP. Fuel was becoming an issue for #1 and #2 following both going defensive from SAMs and the A2A engagement. Warhawk1 went Cat1 and #1 worked closely with Plasma1 to determine how long they needed over target and briefed them on Warhawk1 remaining Playtime.
During CAP Northern SA-3 went active and this information was passed to Plasma1 to avoid as Warhawk1 we’re now all Arizona.
Just as Plasma1 called RTB Warhawk1 picked up contacts inbound from the West and engaged with #2 and #3 up front and #1 supporting. Good engagement with #2 and #3 both taking one Slammer shot and each getting a kill. Great mutual support between elements.
Now RTB, Plasma1 were requested to expedite their recovery due to fuel situation in Warhawk1. Night approach so trail approach #3, #1 then #2 all did a successful straight-in landing on Runway 16R.
Overall great mission with high SA, good Comms between Warhawk and Plasma. Great mutual support between all of Warhawk with excellent flight cohesion that was maintained despite the loss of D/L with #2 for a significant portion of the flight.
