It has been decided that a major blow to the reserve supply depots in the far east of Syria is needed. To that end you are tasked with attacking two such sites. Cobra flight is tasked with completely destroying the Al Bad East Supply Depot, while Hawkeye is to do the same to Al Bad North Arms Depot.

We have no data on any ground threats you may encounter so far into enemy territory. You will be overloaded for take-off so be careful on take off.

Fig 1 - Your Route

You will be alone in the air as you get deeper into Syria although no enemy aircraft operate in that area. A watchful eye should be kept on Kalhalhak AB though as MiG-21MF are currently operating from there.

Fig 2 - The Two Targets

Package 1
Cobra 2 - 4 x F-16A-15 IAF - AI, Tcn 11/74
Hawkey 7 - 4 x F-16A-15 IAF - AI, Tcn 12/75
Weasel 1 - 1 x F-16A-15 IAF - GCI

Mission success will be awarded to flights for complete destruction of their allotted targets. Partial success will be given for destroying three targets at their target.

Good Hunting.

Flight Role: Deep Strike

Cobra21: "Vosene" AA=2 AG=0 RTB
Cobra22: "Mango" AA=0 AG=3 EJT
Cobra23: "Noodle" AA=0 AG=6 EJT
Cobra24: "Gekko" AA=1 AG=0 RTB

Long ingress, no issues. Approaching target identified enemy units near IP. #1 and #2 delayed decent and reset to attack from East. #2 hit first with one Mk-84 Air, shack. #1 dropped both bombs in one pass but they were duds, possibly due to slight over-g (5.4G).

#2 dropped second bomb, shack and primary target destroyed.

Once other flight confirmed their primary target destroyed Cobra 2nd element cleared hot on secondary target. Both Hawkeye7 #3 and Cobra 2nd element had same secondary target and this should have been picked up during planning. As it was, only a few seconds separated Hawkeye73 low-level attack and Cobra23 medium level attack. Lucky to avoid fracticide. #4 couldn’t get bombs off but the job was done and secondary target destroyed.

RTB with #4 low on fuel. This impacted the flight integrity due to not having fuel for A2A. Important to honor joker and bingo.

Hawkeye7 engaged a 2-ship of MiG-21 and Cobra2 supported, monitoring MiG-23 and other threats to the West. #1 should have turned the flight South earlier to move away from the threats but was trying to support Hawkeye7, who then disengaged as the MiG-21 were cold. Cobra2 turned South towards the border but the MiG-23 were getting closer. By now both #2 and #4 had become separated from their leads. Critical to stay visual to maintain the integrity of the element as a fighting force.

#3 turned hot and #1 turned North to support but a MiG-23 had snuck onto#3 tail and shot him down. The MiG then turned hot to #1, who managed to kill the MiG with a front aspect shot. #2 was now defensive from a MiG, once #1 had his Bullseye he turned to support but #2 was shot down before he could close the 10nm. #1 managed to down the MiG-23 with 2x heaters.

#4 also shot down a MiG-21.

RTB, #4 was well ahead and landed first, #1 landed with an OHB.

Flight Role: Deep Strike

Hawkeye71: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=3 RTB
Hawkeye72: "Jules" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Hawkeye73: "Pegasus" AA=0 AG=1 RTB

MS

Took off behind our AI escort. Pegasus joined in the air due to tech issues but soon settled in. The ingress was uneventful but useful to see multiple engineer and AAA battalions in the desert and at air bases along the way.

At 20 miles for SP5 (SP7 was the primary) 1 and 2 went minimum of 2 miles trail and dropped from FL260 to the deck. No3 stayed at altitude to offer BDA and choose which target to go for (ie SP7 or 8, the latter being an army base).

No1 flew at around 500' AGL for the attack, dropping a pair of MK84 Air onto the target destroying it. No2 followed in. The lack of visibility due to the smoke and flames from my attack saw him drop too low (around 125-150' AGL) and his bombs impacted to close to him and killed him.

No3 could see the damage and attacked the army base. Better co-ordination between flights was needed to avoid blue on blue damages during the attack. My fault on this as No3 did not have UHF comms due top his tech problems so I should have stepped. That said we all left the target are in one piece.

We rejoined for the return home. As described by Vosene, we had engagements with MiG-21s that came to nothing. We had to turned to search for 23 spikes on our six, but Cobra took care of them.

We returned home for an overhead break onto rwy 02.

A good flight and a good result. Shame we lost Jules.
