The last mission did a good job of silencing a lot of the air defences surrounding Banja Luca AB. There are lots of AAA around but importantly there remains an SA-6 at the air base as well as an SA-3 to it's south.

Your next task is to destroy the single runway (17/35) at Banja Luca air base after the above SA-3 and SA-6 have been neutralised.

Fig. 1 - Banja Luca Air Base

Air threats continue to present themselves, with everything from Galebs through to MiG-21s and MiG-29A, the latter coming from Banja Luca itself. Our last mission saw a lot of those airframes take off to attack our allies north of our flight path, but you are sure to attract their attention on the ingress.

Details of your mission and the other flights in the package are shown below.

Fig. 4 - Briefing Summary for Package 945

Mustang 5 is loaded with 2 x GBU-31AP bombs for the runway attack.

Weapon load outs are not fixed and can be changed at Package/Flight Leads discretion.

Mission Success Criteria
Package success will be the destruction of Banja Luca AB runway 17/35, the SA-6 Straight Flush and the SA_3 Low Blow, with no losses to air threats.

Partial Success shall be the destruction of the SA-6 Straight Flush and Banja Luca AB runway 17/35.

Good Hunting.

Flight Role - OCA Strike

Mustang51: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=1 RTB
Mustang52: "Mango" AA=0 AG=1 KIA

MS

We were loaded with 2 x GBU-31AP and had our targets, the two central sections of the runway, locked as steerpoints.

Ingress was uneventful. We were aware of the action ahead through the excellent comms from Pixy and Pegasus.

We had to put one orbit in while enemy aircraft were dealt with. We were then cleared in. I was concerned that there wasn't confirmation that the SA-3 and 6 were down, but weapons were en route from the AI flight.

We went into two mile trail and prosecuted the attack successfully, destroying two sections of the runway.

Unfortunately, there were eight MiG-29As waiting to scramble. If my bombs had hit five seconds sooner that they did, Pixy and Mango would have survived. Unfortunately Mango was KIA.

Note the engineers waiting to fix the runway. Next mission?

The return home was uneventful.

The ridiculously unrealistic action from the killer MiG is why this has been deemed a MS.

Flight Role - AI

Cyborg11: "Pegasus" AA=0 AG=9 RTB
Cyborg12: "Gekko" AA=0 AG=8 RTB

MS

We took a mixed load of 4xSDBs and 1xHARM each.

As Plasma1 were engaging the first pair of Mig-29s, we took position south west of their fight. Once clear, we turned to engage the SA-3 with SDBs on precision steerpoints (Pegasus) and SA-6 with SDBs on TGP located targets.

This resulted in destruction of both Flat Face and Low Blow of the SA-3 and several SA-6 launchers.

We had a window of opportunity so called in Mustang 5 for their attack. Pegasus turned in parallel to Mustang 5 and launched a HARM at the SA-6 site just as they were crossing into the threat circle, and this HARM passed by. Gekko was about 20nm behind Mustang 5 as he launched his HARM, which destroyed the SA-6 Flat Face and also damaged the Straight Flush.

Cyborg wasn't able to assist in the frenetic furball over the enemy airbase, and was RTB after a final pass to confirm nothing else was chasing anyone.
