Story from the 4th of August - 2001: Blue on Blue, Skylark on Sparrow

Court Marshal 11/08/01

[ Back ]

It is the opinion of this Court Marshal that the friendly fire incident that occurred during the "Lab Rats" Tactical Engagement on the 4th of August, 2001 was not the fault of Skylark, so he is acquitted from all charges.

There is no evidence of radar lock on the ACMI between Skylarks and Sparrows planes, and reports of slight technical difficulties also support Commands conclusion that this incident was mainly due to technical malfunction of important systems. The AIM-120 AMRAAM did not detonate even though it passed very close to the Su-27, another strange thing as it should have had a proximity detonation.

With a bit more caution and better comms perhaps this could have been less likely to happen, but we all know how easy it is to get tumbleweed in a furball! :-)).

This court is adjourned.
