Story from the 4th of August - 2001: Blue on Blue, Skylark on Sparrow

Yeah, Sir, weird it was indeed.

I remembered going in at full afterburner. Ahead of me, winglead called "weapons away" and he had a hard left hand turn. Then his wingie called that the target was destroyed. I guess he didn't drop his bombs but saw that as he made a hard right hand turn.

I dropped my bombs, releasing chaff and flares, afraid of being shot by triple A. I asked for my wingie, but she had some comms with the winglead. Can't remember the topics. Anyway, I mad a hard left hand turn too and followed the winglead on the way home. He and my wingie kept talking but comms were bad and I couldn't understand a word. Nevertheless, I was glad she was still alive. I felt a little responsible for her.

After a while I asked AWACS for a picture. AWACS responded that there were MIG 25 at our tails and approaching. I made a hard right hand 180 degree turn, calling this to the flight. From that moment on, everything got really fast. I got a solid lock and fired an AIM 120. "Fox three", I called.

It was amazing that the Slammer didn't explode in the vicinity of the bandit. Nevertheless, I switched to the heat and got a solid lock. "Fox two". I saw the missile leave the rail and got blinded for a second.
But this missile missed the bastard too. With a hard right hand turn, I got behind this bandit and locked him with an AMRAAM. "Fox three". This time, I saw the AMRAAM hitting the bandit in the tail. I called "Splash bandit" and felt excited although I just killed a human being. I didn't see any chute. Then I realized that the wingman of this bandit was still in the air, perhaps at my tail. I made a hard right hand turn and this one hurt.

I locked a plane but saw from the transponder it was a friend. Then I saw another plane and locked it. I was confusing at that time. The transponder read a bandit but I wasn't sure. I followed the plane in a lag pursuit. At once I saw a sidewinder impact in the plane. The bastard! I lost my temper and followed the bandit. I gave him a burst with the cannon right up into the tail.

I was sure that nailed him. "Splash two". I saw a chute and for a moment, the remnants of the plane just flew straight ahead, but I had no time to think, perhaps it was a threeship. I continued my right hand turn and asked AWACS for a picture. AWACS reported bandits at 40 miles, so no bandits in the vicinity. I picked up the coarse to homeplate and found the wingleader at my twelve o'clock. I started communicating with him. I also called my wingman, but no joy at that moment.

I followed the coarse to homeplate and the blips on my scope got nearer. I locked the nearest bandit and locked it up. The transponder confirmed a bandit but I asked AWACS to confirm it too. They did. A fourship. I fired an AMRAAM. "Fox three". I saw the AMRAMM leaving the rail. It was beautiful. Quickly, I disengaged the bandit and locked another. "Fox three", I called. Things became serious this time.

I heard bitching Betty screaming for Archers inbound. I relieved chaff and flares until the Missile inbound light went off.

I saw the first AMRAAM impact the bandit. "Splash bandit", I shouted.

One bandits broke through the defense and was approaching very fast. I had just one heat and one radar left. I locked him in the vertical mode and got a solid lock. I pressed the button and saw the AMRAAM leaving the rail. I was lucky this time. No stickers. "Fox three". AT that time I heard my wingman screaming. She was hit by two Archers. I got really angry. Why didn't she join up with the flight? I felt responsible for her. I had no time to think about it. There were still two bandits in the air.
I saw two AMRAAM leaving the rail of the lead to the bandits at my twelve o'clock.

To the left I saw the chute of my wingie and the bandit who shot her. The bandit was turning in hot.
I saw him shooting two Archers at the winglead and two at his wingman. Then I saw Cowboy 12 shooting AMRAAM. There were missiles all over there. All the missiles missed and decided to turn in hot.
The bandit nailed my wingman, so I had to punish him for it. I saw that Cowboy 12 was busy in a dogfight. I decided to back up Cowboy 12. If Cowboy 12 wasn't successful in splashing this bandit, I was.

Cowboy 13 (me) approaching the battle area in a good position to nail the bandit who
splashed my wingman. The turn circle of Cowboy 12 is too large in relation to the bandit.
The dogfight worked out to be bad for Cowboy12. Approaching the battle area, I had a good position in lag pursuit of the bandits tail. "Engaged offensive", I called. The moment I got into the turn circle of the bandit I heard Screaming Betty calling "missile inbound".
I kept on release chaffs and flares but suddenly I felt the impact of a missile. I had no control of my bird anymore and decided to eject.

The next moment I remember something was hanging on the chute and calling for a rescue chopper.

This is my story.
