Flight Role: DEAD

Jaguar21: "Jules" AA=0 AG=0 KIA
Jaguar22: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=5 RTB

PS

After taking off, the lead directed us to head straight for our SP5. We had a steady climb and were at about FL180 when we crossed the FLOT. Soon after we were spiked by an SA15. The lead directed us to get some altitude but it was too late for him as he was destroyed by the SA15 before he could get any altitude or eject.

I continued to push past the threat and gained altitude.

Hog 4 advised me of bogeys ahead and I identified them as 2 x MiG23s. Hog42 (the AI) shot down one while a flight of AI F-16s despatched the other one. Hog 41 advised me to prosecute my ground attack.

I took over my lead's targets as they were higher value than mine. All were destroyed (control tower and five fuel tanks). I damaged one of my allocated targets, which was one of the airport terminals.

I RTB'd without issue apart from the massive amount of traffic.

Lesson learned this time was that we should gain a safe altitude before crossing the FLOT if we know there are significant threats there.

PS

Took the AI #2 along for this one. Got to the target area nice and early and established the CAP.

All quiet but as DEAD approached the airfield a 2-ship of MiG-23 scrambled. Support from Jaguar2 pushed them both cold to the North. My #2 shot one down and with the other still cold, I recommended Jaguar2 resume the ground attack mission. AI F-16 shot down the other MiG-23.

Escorted the F-16 flights home, very busy on landing and had to go around due to traffic on runway. On second approach I touched down but then BMS froze and, after about 20 seconds, I had a CTD.

Just to support Griffin’s learning point. Flights need to ensure they are above ground threat engagement altitudes before crossing the FLOT.
